A video captured around the Tower of London showed a Queen’s Guard knocking over a boy who was in the middle of his marching path. The clip, shared by an anonymous TikTok user, has now gone viral and has been doing the rounds on social media platforms. The shocking incident has prompted netizens to share angry reactions regarding the Guardsman’s behaviour.
The Queen’s Guards are entrusted with the duty of providing security to the British Royal Family and are stationed at royal residences all over the UK. In the now-viral video, two Guardsmen can be seen marching on a street packed with tourists. As the video goes on, a boy can be seen stumbling in the path of the Guardsman. However, they carry on and one of the Guardsmen almost steps on the child.

The clip has garnered over 2.2 million views and several enraged comments from netizens. According to a report by DailyMail, the Queen’s Guards are given specific orders to deal with obstacles that may come on their marching route. They are allowed to shout ‘Make way for the Queen’s Guards’ and also stomp their feet.
“The Guardsmen on duty warned members of the public that a patrol was approaching but the child unfortunately ran out in front of the soldier unexpectedly. The soldier tried to step over the child and continued on his duty. Following the incident, the soldier checked on the child and was reassured that all was well,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence told DailyMail.
But the public fury was evident from the comments shared on the Twitter post. Some Twitter users pointed out that the behaviour was insensitive. Many, however, opined that the Guardsmen were just doing their duty.
What sort of adult does that?

I did that job once. The soldier didn’t hurt him on purpose, but they are on guard and move for absolutely no one, unless ordered to do so.

Why can’t we change the rules so that the guards can just walk around people? I’m sure the answer is “tradition” but who really cares

Surely that’s an assault.

The Queen’s Guards have been entrusted with the security of the Royal Family since 1660. They wear red tunics and bearskin hats and during autumn and winter months they wear long grey coats that make them quite distinguishable in public.
